Wagstaff Table Top Refractory The physical properties of Pyroform HP™ offer important ADVANTAGES: Fiber-based refractories like Pyroform HP™ have a distinct advantage over particle-based refractories such as fused silica and castables. The physical attributes of ceramic fiber make it a superior insulator because:
The figures below illustrate heat transfer through a ceramic fiber-based material and a particle-based material such as fused silica or castable.
Pyroform HP™ contains no crystalline silica. Crystalline silica is present in nearly all particle-based, fused silica, and castable materials. It is classified as "carcinogenic to humans" (Group 1) by IARC. They believe there is sufficient evidence that exposure to crystalline silica can cause cancer. Pyroform HP™ contains no crystalline silica when placed in service and does not convert to crystalline silica when exposed to normal aluminum casting temperatures below 1800°F (980°C). Pyroform HP™ has almost no shrinkage (<.05% @ 1200°F [650°C]). It has less shrinkage than nearly any refractory available. The low shrinkage of Pyroform HP™ means less time spent refilling joints and cracks. Low shrinkage also extends the life of the refractory by reducing internal and external stresses created as the material shrinks. Pyroform HP™ contains no organic substances which could lead to off-gassing. No off-gassing removes a possible cause of metal contamination or metal agitation.
